Can Women Park Automobiles as Well as Men?

February 15th, 2010

Women, put away your ego at the entrance. Seems like men actually are more effective than female drivers at getting their cars into a parking space, if one is to trust a contemporary investigation out of Germany.

Various types of parking were incorporated in this rather uncommon study that involved people trying to park their respective automobiles in the most excellent possible manner within the given parking space.

The outcome from the analysis also showed that the women drivers took considerably more time to park accurately, whilst also not carrying out the mission as precisely as their male counterparts.

Help Me in Purchasing A Car

February 8th, 2010

I should now get rid of my 2002 Infinity (pegged at almost €5K) as our home now wants a larger vehicle (2 adults, 1 child and twins expected soon).

I should add that the car has treated me noticeably satisfactorily and I have, by no means, felt the need of power; and the single motive that I want to sell it is 'coz I, at present, want a larger car.

I'm wide open to cars that bear the following points into consideration:
a) more spacious
b) related minimal emission
c) safe on small trips (since that's what we essentially do)
d) decent on fuel efficacy

What's critical is that the vehicle should be from a reasonably reliable maker, and that the replacement parts should be easy to find and not very overpriced, etc.

Principally, if you were contented with the vehicle I spoke of although you only require to replace it with something that is SLIGHTLY larger, in that case which one would you choose? I am keen on the exterior of the Nissan Xterra. Although I sense it would be difficult to get one in the given price range. All wheel drives could be helpful for us since we live in the Andes and a small amount of off road trails are present, although it's not mandatory for the car to be an SUV.

While I wait I imagine I'll merely bear on propelling a rental automobile

All your suggestions would be extremely appreciated.

Dad's Latest Car

January 29th, 2010

My old man just turned in his Ford Explorer and is on the lookout to charter another car. He already expressed that the previous SUV was a little taxing on his posterior and also that the power was in excess of what he wanted… Now he's looking for a 4 cylinder or a diminutive 6, and it needs to be Offroader since he does surfing, etc… and it's the only roomy vehicle in the family, I used his vehicle some times to shift things around since I own a Toyota Prius and my wife a Beetle.

Nonetheless, the budget; it's positively under US $28k including taxes plus fees.

He did like the GMC Acadia, but it's way too underpowered, the Turbo version has superb power and handles well, but for the price he feels he could get something else.

He chanced upon a magnificent deal at Volkswagen for a Jetta SportWagen 2.5L 5 cylinders… but he has a reliability concern given that our Audi A6 and VW Cabrio were regulalrly having problems. I recommended that through a 24-month lease he shouldn't face any problems (in contrast to driving the Jeep Wrangler like he did for around 4 years).

We also looked at the new Kia Sorento, a pretty darn enjoyable car, you can feel superiority all over when you enter inside… He even suggested that he would have bought the car already if it wasn't because the salesman was such a obnoxious person… I think after taxes it gets to $30k or so, although he seems to be fond of the SUV a lot.

He used the Toyota Highlander (4 cylinders) and was of the opinion that it feels like crap… I didn't get to test out that one, but he does seem to be convinced that his new car will not be a Toyota.

If you are aware of any reliable choices which he can look into while not having to spend a ridiculous sum of money, your suggestions are more than welcome.
