Like Fencing, But With Sex Toys

I don't know, I thought the story in the prequels was pretty cool. I liked how the Emperors grand plan came together and even how Obi-Wan screwed up his scheme for a uber-sith warrior at the end…but he just modified his scheme and got badass scary sith warrior instead.

The difference was Lucas had an overarching story of the galaxy to tell in this one and couldn't bring it down to the characters well enough with dialog. In the first three (4,5,6) we find out whats happening in the galaxy, but through the characters. For example we don't go to the Senate and see them shut down…we just hear Grand Moff Tarkin tell us. I think the problem with the prequels were that Lucas could now show us what these cool places looked like with his CGI but in doing that he kind of ruined it a bit. By keeping it on a smaller scale (because he had to) he kept it more personal and character oriented….not to mention he picked Harrison Ford because any other actor doing those lines would seem as ridiculous as Jar Jar.

Overall I have never been one to subscript to the money-grubbing idea of Lucas. He has a shit ton of cash but doesn't seem to really lavish in it. Yes he has a sweet ranch and a winery…but he is not rolling around like a prince. It seems to me that someone who everyone says is so in love with money enough to ruin his greatest creation would be showing us that money love a little more.

I think what happened was Lucas's ambitions got a little ahead of himself. He tried to do to much CGI when it just didn't look good enough yet. He tried to tell too big a tale to keep it about the characters and he tried to recreate his good casting of Ford/Hamil/Fisher etc and did OK with Ewan/Qui-Gon but no go with Hayden. He tried to push the limits of story-telling and technology and came up a bit (or a lot) short on both. And lets not forget the effect that nostalgia has on how we remember the original trillogy, ruby glasses can have quite an effect.

I for one like the prequels mostly, but agree that they are in no way on level with the originals.
