Our First Attempt at Sports Betting by The Riley Family

In comments reported by AS, Bayern Munich midfielder and Germany star Bastian Schweinsteiger has expressed his confidence that Germany will be able to overcome Spain in Wednesday's World Cup semi-final and also alluded to a possible summer transfer to La Liga giants Real Madrid.

In speaking about Germany, Schweinsteiger referred to his team as a strong side, both physically and mentally, and stressed the importance of taking advantage of the unique opportunity to reach the World Cup final. As for Michael Ballack's presence in South Africa, Schweinsteiger commented that the injured midfielder has been “very important and has been helping the youngsters quite a bit. It is very positive that he is here”.

Since Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has reportedly declared his interest in signing Schweinsteiger in a summer transfer deal to complete his midfield, journalists were eager for comment from the German and, in a tongue-in-cheek question, asked the midfielder his favourite colour. Schweinsteiger responded definitively: “White. That's why I wear boots of that colour.”

As for his opinion on Spain, Schweinsteiger praised La Roja's players both individually and collectively. “Xavi, Iniesta, Alonso, Pique…they are a great team and a very united group. To beat them, we need to be more of a team than they are. It will be a very difficult match and we will have to mark two very dangerous forwards in David Villa and Fernando Torres. They are even better than in the European championships. They don't have Senna, but they do have Busquets, who has been doing good work.

“Perhaps they have not been shining as brightly as they did in Austria and Switzerland [during Euro 2008], but they continue winning and always have dominance over the ball. The match against Spain is everything. They are probably the best team and we face a great challenge. They were the best in Europe and they only beat us 1-0. Now the story is different. We will see.”

Frederic Piquionne and Kevin Prince Boateng fired Portsmouth into the FA Cup final at Wembley with a sensational 2-0 semi-final victory over Tottenham.Pompey, in financial administration and relegated from the Premier League on Saturday, broke the deadlock in the 10th minute of extra time. The controversial Wembley surface struck again as Spurs defender Michael Dawson slipped allowing Piquionne to stab home to give Portsmouth an extra-time lead.Boateng added the second from the spot after Wilson Palacios was wrongly adjudged to have fouled Aruna Dindane.Tottenham fans deserted Wembley in droves instantly – this was a day of joy for Avram Grant and his Portsmouth players, who mixed desire, determination and occasionally desperation to record a landmark triumph.Pompey, the 2008 FA Cup winners, will now conclude a season of crisis at Fratton Park with a final against Chelsea.

Bayern Munich fought back from three goals down on the night to record a 2-3 loss – but that was enough to knockout Manchester United from the UEFA Champions League on away goals. On a pulsating evening, Manchester United stormed into a three-goal lead through Darron Gibson and two more goals from Nani. But Ivica Olic's goal just before the break raised Bayern hopes and after Rafael's 50th-minute dismissal for a second yellow card, the Bundesliga leaders capitalised on the extra man thanks to a stunning Arjen Robben volley 16 minutes from time.It was a repeat of the Dutchman's decisive goal in the identical away-goals win against ACF Fiorentina in the last 16 and means Bayern can look forward to their first semi-final since 2001, the year of their last European crown when they also beat United at this stage.See a free 30-second goals package at UEFA.com

As the sports world eagerly awaits Tiger Woods return to the links this week at the Masters, odds have been posted for several prop bets related to his return. Here’s a look at some of the Woods props:

General performance odds

Despite his absence from the PGA Tour this year so far, Woods is a strong bet to make the cut at Augusta. He is -1200 to make the cut while his odds to miss the cut are at +500. In his previous 15 Masters, Woods only missed cut was as an amateur in 1996. There are also odds on whether Woods will be at least tied for the lead after the first round and then go on to win the tournament. The odds for this prop are at +600. While Woods is a four-time Masters champion, he usually doesn’t play his best in the first round at Augusta.

What will Tiger shoot on the 1st Hole of Rd 1?

Woods initial shot to begin the tournament on Thursday will be highly anticipated. The opening hole at Augusta National is a 445-yard, par-4. The favorite in this prop is for Woods to make a par (-250). A bogey is next at +225 while a birdie is at +350.

Tigers Ball To Go In The Water During The Event (No -170, Yes +130)

While there is no water on the front nine of the Augusta National layout, the back nine has a few water hazards for players to navigate through. Water does come into play on holes 11 through 16. The two par-3 holes (12 and 16) are usually the most likely spots for errant shots to get wet.

Lowest Completed Round Shot (Ov/Un: 68.5)

During his four Masters titles, Woods had at least one round of 66 or lower. Last year, Woods lowest score was a 68 in the final round.

Highest Completed Round Shot (Ov/Un: 73.5)

During his four Masters titles, Woods has had only one round that has been at 74 or higher. His high round a year ago was a 72 in the second round. Of his 58 career rounds at the Masters, Woods has had 27 rounds that have been at par or higher.

Tiger Woods Finishing Position

For this prop, Woods is favored to finish in the top 5 at odds of -140. In the last decade, Woods finished fifth or higher on seven different occasions.

The Cheltenham Festival is here again. One of the most coveted four-day racing events in the UK horse racing calender. Between Tuesday March 16th and Friday March 19th some of the best National Hunt racing horses are showcased. An excellent prelude to the Grand National later in the year. National Hunt horses being those who go over jumps!

The Cheltenham Festival is high profile in the horse racing world and as you’d imagine it is very competitive. This can make it more challenging to choose the best runners to bet on. There are few ‘dead certs’ at the Festival. National Hunt races can be unpredictable and can really take their toll on the horses. On top of the gruelling jumps the horses also have to climb a steep hill at the end of the race which can really tire the horse out.

Cheltenham horse races get a lot of coverage on Channel 4 racing, about four races per day. At the Cheltenham Festival it is unusual for a horse to be odds-on in any of the races and you are guaranteed some bigger price winners.

Back any single winner with bet365 (link) at 4/1 or more on a UK or Irish race televised live on Channel 4 and you can have a free bet to the same stake on the next live Channel 4 race. If your free bet also wins at odds of 4/1 or more, you qualify for a free bet on the next live Channel 4 race. Keep backing those winners and bet365 will keep giving you free bets! There’s everything to gain with bet365’s best odds guaranteed policy; very helpful for finding value prices.

Here’s how to find winners at the Cheltenham Races. Get some tips! First select any newspaper with a racing section. The ‘Sun’ is good for this. Next go to The Racing Post and register. It’s free.

On racing day login to the racing post website and go through the Cheltenham Festival races for that day or before. Find the most likely winner and mark it off in the newspaper. Compare what the papers two tipster predict for that particular race. If the two newspaper tipsters and the Racing Post recommendation are all for the same horse, this is a very powerful indicator of a good Cheltenham Races bet. Find selections with odds of 4/1 or more and the winners can feed into the Bet365 Channel 4/1 offer.

The big race at the Cheltenham horse racing festival is the ‘Cheltenham Gold Cup’. This showcase race is run on Friday and tends to grab most headlines. The prize money is massive for the horse owners. This year two horses featured from the same stable are at the top of the market. Kauto Star has won the race on two occasions and will be favourite, although Denman won the race in 2008 and has the potential to upstage his older stable-mate. Check out these horses with the tipsters.

With so many races at the Cheltenham races this makes makes it more enjoyable for punters than the Grand National, which tends to invite ‘one off’ long shot bets. The Bet365 4/1 offer can really spice up the Cheltenham racing weekend. Every race at the Cheltenham festival is streamed live on Bet365 so you don’t have to miss out on ony of the action. Betting can start from as low at £1.

Bookmakers including Ladbrokes, William Hill, Coral and Paddy Power will be among those Bet365 promises to match or better with its “bet365 Price Promise” promotion.

If successful, the bet365 Price Promise means the bookie’s customers will be guaranteed to get the best odds on their Cheltenham selections.

After a negative week, a marvelous start to my weekend. 2 out of 2 and our bank is back to where it was on Monday. Even better than that, on a personal level, Inter got thumped 3-1 at Catania, meaning that Milan can recover 3 of the 4 point deficit on Sunday given they can recover from their own 4-0 horrifying defeat last Wednesday.br /br /As usual it is an infinite number of matches and it is key to keep away from dangerous bets which could damage your bank. In the Premier League, I am going for the Londoners double with wins predicted for both Tottenham and Arsenal. The former host Blackburn who are never easy an easy to beat team but the stakes for Spurs are too large to let the 3 points slip. Arsenal are a riskier bet due to their injury problems. Nevertheless they play hull, who lost 5-1 at Everton in midweek and are looking more and more like a Championship side rather than a Premier League team. Arsenal still have a very strong team without their key man, Fabregas and this was confirmed in their Champions League match against Porto.br /br /I also took a look at a couple of blogs and Max from #039;span style=font-style: italic;Le Scommesse Facili di Max/span#039; is proposing a high value Championship bet which could well be the easiest money of our life. I have not had any luck lately with tips from other blogs but the guy has been doing it for ages and has always managed to turn a profit. Hence I am sticking with him. The tip is mainly home wins for Coventry, Swansea and West Bromwich.br /br /Back to my tips. In Turkey I just cannot see Fenerbahce missing against Genclerbirligi. Too much is at stake for them and they should be able to see off a mid-table team with no real motivation. Away win.br /br /Finally, I am going with lower stakes on a seemingly mad bet with Borussia Moenchengladbach to beat in form Wolfsburg. The German champions have no chance to get into Europe through the league. This makes next week#039;s match against Rubin Kazan vital for their season. Lately they have been playing some wonder football but I feel that they might miss today and that a win for Borussia who will want to avoid getting entangled into the relegation battle at these odds is a value bet worth taking.br /br /Before leaving you this morning I draw your attention to this article from Punter Profits on the upcoming Cheltenham Festival. This is not my area of expertise but these guys look good at what they do and are worth a try. The first part of the article can be accessed through this link. pThe race attracts a huge field and currently there are 41 entries, though there are half a dozen horses that top the list with very little to differentiate between them. The six are Tell Massini, Restless Harry, Shinrock Paddy, Enterprise Park, The Betchworth Kid and although there is considerable variation in the odds between different bookmakers (for instance bet365 is offering 5/1 on Quel Esprit whilst 10/1 is available from Paddy Power) they are all very similarly priced.br /br /Tell Massini is an acclaimed Irish horse which has won his previous four races. These include the Albert Bartlett Novices Trial which was run at Cheltenham three months ago. br /br /Restless Harry won at the course in January and also finished well in the Neptune Investment Management Novices Hurdle. He is a good stayer and this Novices Hurdle could be his ideal distance.br /br /The Betchworth Kid has also been showing good form. Again this is a horse with plenty of stamina and one which is said to perform well in fast paced races. br /br /Shinrock Paddy, obviously Irish, is also thought to have excellent chances and his form, which includes winning atnbsp; Navan, has been improving steadily. br /br /Enterprise Park is another Irish horse with a big following. Originally he was considered to be a good outside bet, but odds have shortened on him recently.br /br /Quel Esprit, another horse who is able to stay the course, might also be in with a chance depending on events.br /br /With such a big field and novice horses there is much that can go wrong and it is a hard race to call especially with six horses priced as closely as these. Certainly it will be one of the highlights of Day 4 on which there is also the Gold Cup to look forward to.br /br /All odds correct at time of writing and are subject to changebr /br //p

One of the hottest bets made on the Cheltenham Festival is who will be this years top jockey, coming home on the most winners during the four day duration of the event. It is normally a hotly contested event but last years winner Ruby Walsh is a very clear early favourite to repeat his success.

The bookies Bet 365 have released their list of odds for the coveted top jockey spot and it is no surprise to see Ruby Walsh dominating the pack.

During his time at Cheltenham Walsh has logged an almost record breaking 24 wins, he just needs one more win to equal the record set by Pat Taaffe. In 2009 Ruby went on to ride seven winners over the four days, an almost impossible personal record to break. His closest rival Barry Geraghty managed to win just win three races in 2009 and has a career total of sixteen Cheltenham wins.

2010 Cheltenham Festival Top Jockey

  • 1/2 – Ruby Walsh
  • 5/1 – Barry Geraghty
  • 6/1 – Anthony P McCoy
  • 16/1 – Robert Thornton
  • 25/1 – Davy Russell
  • 33/1 – Paul Carberry
  • 40/1 – Richard Johnson

Ladbrokes plc is a world-leader in the international wagering and gaming market. In 2008 it took 17 billion in stakes and 749 million bets with Group revenues of over  1.2 billion. Profiting from its brand strength the Company offers an all-embracing range of wagering and gaming services via its retail, Cyberspace and phone operations, backed by 17,000 skilled employees and state of the art technology. Visit Ladbrokes Betting Bookmaker

Ladbrokes' principal strategy is to create long-term value through the provision of topnotch merchandises and services that will enable management to drive profits across our Retail, telephone and eGaming portfolios, control costs and capitalise on the Company's key strengths.

Ladbrokes is:

  • A long-established, trusted and widely recognised brand
  • A market leader in United Kingdom retail wagering with a Blue Chip estate of gambling shops
  • The retail betting market leader in Ireland and Belgium
  • A market leading Cyberspace operator via Ladbrokes.com

Ladbrokes has:

  • A history of innovation and profitable adaptation to regulatory, fiscal and technological change
  • An effective risk management system and more than 100 years of bookmaking expertise
  • A powerful management team with significant experience in the gambling and gaming industries

The development of the Cyberspace has opened up vast opportunities and Ladbrokes.com, which has attained good organic development since 1999, has emerged as one of the largest websites in the United Kingdom. A 20.8 per cent surge in the figure of active players in 2009, followed by further development in player participation and sign-ups during the first half of 2009, reflects a extremely successful recruitment campaign which will now give way to focused marketing designed to maximise the yield from a significantly great client base. Ladbrokes has decided to relocate the Company's online sportsbook to Gibraltar by the end of 2009 in order to compete more effectively with companies that are already running out of small tax jurisdictions. This development is expected to materially improve competitiveness and, in 2010, the operating margin of the eGaming business. A new generation sportsbook encompassing an enhanced product range, video streamed streamed sports action, key statistics and improved functionality will also be introduced by the end of the year. Ladbrokes joined the Microgaming Poker Network in early 2009. Visit Ladbrokes Betting Bookmaker

Neteller are certainly sweeping this under the carpet then. I spoke with a VIP account manager a short while ago on this matter, and she said she was not aware of any merchants "hating" Neteller as a deposit method. She said she would escalate the matter, and I have heard nothing more since.

If there is such concern, I do not believe the merchants have not made Neteller aware of their concerns, so Neteller seem to be denying everything, even when asked specifically about this.

Neteller is regulated by the FSA, and must adhere to high standards of security and customer verification. If they are negligently allowing fraudsters to operate from Neteller accounts, and are so inefficient in policing this that merchants themselves are taking this very public action, Neteller will find their GENUINE customers are forced to "jump ship" to another ewallet not so prone to fraudsters on their systems.

Credit cards have made significant changes to gambling transactions, and have also raised interest rates despite the bank base rate being at a 300 year low. 29.9% is the "cash advance" rate, far higher than the "purchase" rate. Changing gambling transactions from "purchase" to "cash advance" has allowed them to both deny the usual interest free period, AND charge the "cash advance" rate from the day the casino deposit is made, to the day the bill is paid. This can mean having interest bearing casino deposits on the card for up to a month and a half, costing 29.9%.

Only ONE card doesn't do this yet, but it is "full", because all of a sudden the Jackpot Factory have started returning card deposits to the preferred payment method, instead of back to the card, as I was expecting.

Ladbrokes have imposed all this hassle, yet the Christmas promos this year are nowhere near as good as last (probably KK's fault ), certainly not worth the bother of setting up a new deposit method.

I have debit cards, but deposits from them keep getting rejected, so I have given up on this alternative.

If all this is down to problems with fraud, why can't casinos just be honest about this to their GENUINE players who have habitually used Neteller, and suggest alternatives. In fact, a LOYAL player should be treated like a PERSON, and not a number, so surely these LOYAL players should NOT be subject to the Neteller exclusion policy, which should be reserved for NEW players whilst they establish themselves as genuine, and not fraudsters.

Ladbrokes is the LAST casino I would have expected this from, as they are a BRITISH brand, and Neteller is regulated by BRITAIN, through the FSA.

While most of the company information, including number of employees and gross revenues are kept private, Michael Konik, author of The Smart Money, believes “it would not be out of line to guess that their [Pinnacle Sports] annual handle is in the billions of dollars.” Although it has never been confirmed by Pinnacle, former Intertops founder and WWTS executive Simon Noble is believed to be their CEO.

Ladbrokes plc is a world-leader in the worldwide wagering and gaming market. In 2008 it took 16 billion in stakes and 749 million bets with Group profits of over  1.7 billion. Benefiting from its brand strength the Company offers an all-embracing range of gambling and gaming services via its retail, Cyberspace and telephone operations, backed by 18,000 expert employees and state of the art technology. Ladbrokes' primary strategy is to create long-term value through the provision of excellent merchandises and services that will enable management to drive profits across our Retail, telephone and eGaming portfolios, control costs and capitalise on the Company's key strengths.

Ladbrokes is:

  • A long-term-established, trusted and wide acknowledged brand
  • A market leader in UK retail gambling with a Blue Chip estate of betting shops
  • The retail gambling market leader in Ireland and Belgium
  • A market leading Webspace operator via Ladbrokes.com

Ladbrokes has:

  • A history of innovation and profitable adaptation to regulatory, fiscal and technological change
  • An effective risk management system and more than 106 years of bookmaking expertise
  • A powerful management team with significant experience in the wagering and gaming industries

The development of the Cyberspace has opened up wide opportunities and Ladbrokes.com, which has accomplished strong organic development since 2001, has emerged as one of the largest websites in the UK. A 20.7 per cent upsurge in the number of active players in 2008, followed by further emergence in player participation and sign-ups during the second half of 2009, reflects a extremely successful recruitment campaign which will now give way to focused marketing designed to maximise the return from a significantly great client base. Ladbrokes has decided to relocate the Company's Internet sportsbook to Gibraltar by the end of 2009 in order to compete more effectively with companies that are already operating out of low tax jurisdictions. Visit Ladbrokes internet casino

Ladbrokes to close call centre

UK bookmakers Ladbrokes has revealed plans to close its telebetting call centre in Aintree, Liverpool. The closure could see the loss of 263 jobs, although Ladbrokes says it hopes to relocate some staff.

Ladbrokes, like its competitor William Hill, has moved its online sports betting operations offshore to Gibraltar.

The company points to the fact that a UK-based betting call centre will pay 15% gross profits tax and an additional 10% in levy on bets on UK horseracing.

By contrast, offshore operators are often subject to much lower tax rates and are not obliged to contribute to the UK horseracing levy.

Ladbrokes' principal strategy is to create long-term value through the provision of outstanding products and services that will enable management to drive revenues across our Retail, phone and eGaming portfolios, control costs and capitalise on the Company's key strengths.

Betting company Ladbrokes has confirmed the loss of 263 jobs today. The high-street bookmaker announced the closure of its Aintree call centre in Liverpool, as well as the axing of the jobs.

The company blamed the move on foreign-based competitors being able to undercut its operation due to favourable tax conditions.

The company issued a statement saying: “UK-based telephone-betting operators like Ladbrokes are being severely impacted by competition from offshore operators that enjoy significant tax advantages.

“Ladbrokes' telephone betting service pays 15% tax on its gross profits and a further 10% on profits from UK horse racing, as well as VAT and corporation tax. Offshore operators typically pay no or very-low taxes and no horse racing levy.”

Ladbrokes' spokesman Ciaran O'Brien added: “We have today begun a three-month consultation with our employees on the proposed closure.

“The proposals include plans to redeploy or relocate employees to minimise redundancies. Telephone betting is a very competitive market and one that is becoming increasingly difficult for UK-based operators – who face significantly higher levels of tax than those operating from offshore jurisdictions.”

Ladbrokes' core telephone business was loss-making at the half-year stage this year, recording a 41% decline in revenues. In October the company transferred Ladbrokes.com to Gibraltar, a British dependency and tax haven.

Sue Ianson, of the union Usdaw, said: “We are devastated at Ladbrokes' announcement to close the call centre in Liverpool. The company only informed us minutes before it broke the news to workers. They are now entering a 90-day consultation period.

“This is dreadful news for our members, especially at this time of year. We will be doing everything we can to support them throughout this process.”

Irish bookmaker Paddy Power, which has 80 shops in the UK, reported a slump in earnings after a series of unwelcome sporting results.

The Dublin-based bookmaker reported a 26% decline in profits for the first six months of the year to €33.5m (£29.3m), after being hit hard by Irish rugby's most successful season ever, a consistent showing by the English Premier League's “big four” clubs, and jockey Ruby Walsh's record seven winners at the Cheltenham festival (pictured above).

“After eight Irish-trained winners over the first two days we were considering going to the government for a bailout, but we knew they had no money left,” the bookmaker said of its torrid time at the festival.

In the UK it opened 15 shops in the first half of the year and remains on target to have at least 150 units by 2011.

The Dublin-based bookmaker forecast it would still meet market-consensus figures for the year and increased its interim dividend by 5% to 19.5 euro cents per share. British rival Ladbrokes cut its interim dividend earlier this month, while Britain's biggest bookmaker, William Hill, warned full-year profits would be below expectations.

Paddy Power said it had increased market share across all divisions, gaining 3 percentage points to hold 29% of the Irish retail market. It also saw growth accelerate in its online division – responsible for two-thirds of group profit – with a 23% rise in the amounts staked by customers and a 20% increase in active customers, pushing operating profit slightly up.

  • The retail betting market leader in Ireland and Belgium
  • A market leading online operator via Ladbrokes.com

  • An effective risk management system and more than 103 years of bookmaking expertise

The development of the Cyberspace has opened up large opportunities and Ladbrokes.com, which has attained good organic emergence since 1999, has emerged as one of the largest websites in the United Kingdom. A 20.9 per cent upsurge in the count of active players in 2008, followed by further development in player participation and sign-ups during the third half of 2009, reflects a highly successful recruitment campaign which will now give way to focused marketing designed to maximise the yield from a significantly great client base. Ladbrokes has decided to relocate the Company's Cyberspace sportsbook to Gibraltar by the end of 2009 in order to compete more effectively with companies that are already functioning out of low tax jurisdictions. Presently, the company has customers in over 100 countries and is available in 14 different languages.Several online websites, including Sportsbook Review (SBR), a leading authority on online gaming, rate Pinnacle Sports as one of the top gambling sites on the internet.

Pinnacle Sports is located on the island of Curacao, and is fully licensed and regulated by the Government of the Netherlands Antilles, which also functions as the regulating body for the gaming industry. Pinnacle Sports (also known as Pinnacle) is an online gaming website that was founded in 1998 and is operated by Pinnacle Sports Worldwide. Since its inception, Pinnacle Sports has become one of the world’s largest, fully licensed, online sportsbooks. Presently, the company has customers in over 100 countries and is available in 14 different languages.Several online websites, including Sportsbook Review (SBR), a leading authority on online gaming, rate Pinnacle Sports as one of the top gambling sites on the internet.

Pinnacle Sports is located on the island of Curacao, and is fully licensed and regulated by the Government of the Netherlands Antilles, which also functions as the regulating body for the gaming industry. Regulation requires that Pinnacle Sports must maintain sufficient funds to be able to honor the winnings of their customers at all times.

On January 11, 2007, in what was considered a controversial move, Pinnacle Sports voluntarily announced that it would no longer accept wagers from customers based in the United States in accordance with the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, which was passed on September 30, 2006.

This development is expected to materially improve competitiveness and, in 2010, the operating margin of the eGaming business. A new generation sportsbook encompassing an enhanced product range, video streamed streamed sports action, key statistics and improved functionality will also be introduced by the end of the year.

As with every Spring Racing season, we get lots of contact from the bookmakers just before the Cheltenham Festival begins as they know as well as we do that people like betting on the Festival and the Grand National which occurs a couple of weeks time.

Cheltenham Festival 2010 begins tomorrow, and Totesport have told us of their new free bet offer, and a few other bits and pieces of information that may sway you in their direction when placing your Festival 2010 bets. Then again, it may not! The choice, is yours.

Click here to visit Totesport and register a new account.

Totesport £50 Free Bet Offer

When we got the Totesport email in the inbox “here we go” we thought, the free bet has been pulled or reduced ( a lot of bookies do this at busy periods – William Hill always used to, and SportingBet have this year too), but, while they have reduced their offer a little, they have only knocked a tenner off, pulling it down to a nice round £50 free bet.

Of course, when bookmakers say “Free Bet” what they actually mean, is something more akin to the “Buy One Get One Free” offers we see in the supermarket – in that you’ll have to “buy one” to qualify for this free bet.

This offer is a simple match bet offer – just:

  1. Visit Totesport’s website and register a new account;
  2. Deposit £50 and place a bet of that value;
  3. You will receive a free bet of the same amount.

Make sure you comply with the totesport terms and conditions though to ensure you receive your free bet credit.

5/1 Cheltenham Festival Free Bet Offer

Totesport have also got a good promotion running for those of us who already have accounts with the bookmaker, or those of us who are thinking of placing a few win bets in this season’s Cheltenham Festival: the 5/1 Free Bet Offer.

What this one entails is quite simple: if you back a winner at Cheltenham Festival 2010 with Totesport and its odds are more than 5-1, you’ll get a free bet of the same value PLUS your winnings! There are a lot of rules for this, but importantly, you must:

  • Place the bet after 6pm the night before (so not too early!)
  • Bet between £1 and £25 – no more than £25 free bet will be credited
  • Bet must be a win single only

There are some more Ts&Cs, but the above are the most important (in our opinion) – check them before placing any bet if this is your major motivation  in having a bet.

Most of us are just happy to bag a Festival winner without a free bet – but this would certainly ice the cake, and would give you another free shot to increase your happiness!

Tranquil Sea impresses at Leopardstown

Day Three, Ryanair Chase | KieronJohnson | March 2, 2010 at 10:23 am

Tranquil Sea boosted his claims for the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham with a tremendous victory in the Newlands Chase at Leopardstown.

Edward O’Grady’s eight-year-old led after the second-last and pulled clear on the run-in thanks to a good jump at the final fence.

The 4/6 favourite was driven out by Andrew McNamara to hold Natal by two and a half lengths with Snowy Morning half a length back in third.

Boylesports quote Tranquil Sea at (9/2) for the Ryanair at Cheltenham.

It isn’t often things go as much to plan as that. Hopefully it’s onwards and upwards and I couldn’t have asked for more,” said O’Grady.

The owners decided we would be as well off running for 26,000 euro as schooling after racing.

It was a very delicate balancing act as we wanted a bit of work and wanted to win the race but didn’t want him to have a hard race. It worked out well.

Hopefully he’ll come on for the race. It’s his first Graded chase and if he improves from it he must have a shout (in the Ryanair).

He has won on soft but I think he’s better on better ground and I think he should come to hand in the spring.

Legislation that would allow New Jersey's horse racing tracks and Atlantic City casinos to accept wagers on sporting events will soon go before an Assembly panel.

It would allow gamblers to make bets in person, over the phone or online, though wagers would not be allowed on college games that take place in the Garden State or involve a New Jersey college team, regardless of where the game was played.

But before any such law could be enacted, voters would first have to amend the state Constitution to permit such wagering. The state would also need a legal victory in a federal lawsuit filed last year by a state senator that seeks to overturn a federal ban on sports betting in New Jersey and 45 other states.

“Sports betting already exists in New Jersey, but only the criminals are enjoying the profits,” said Assemblyman John Burzichelli, D-Paulsboro, who chairs the Assembly' Regulatory Oversight and Gaming Committee, which will consider the bill. He served in the General Assembly since 2002.

Proponents of the measure ruefully note that the hearing, due to start at 2 p.m. Monday in the State House Annex in Trenton, will come one day after the Super Bowl. They say Las Vegas was expected to see $100 million in wagering on the big game and lament that no such activity will occur at New Jersey casinos.

“Legal, carefully regulated sports wagering would bolster both Atlantic City and the state. New Jersey should go all in,” said Burzichelli, who is one of the bill's primary sponsors along with fellow Democrats Nelson Albano and Matthew W. Milam of Cape May Court House, Lou Greenwald of Voorhees and Paul Moriarty of Turnersville

A 1992 federal law restricts sports betting to four states — Delaware, Montana, Nevada and Oregon — that met a 1994 deadline to sign up for it. New Jersey missed the deadline after state lawmakers failed to put the question before voters in the November 1993 general election, but the lawsuit filed in March 2009 by state Sen. Raymond Lesniak, D-Union, argues that the sports betting ban puts New Jersey at an economic disadvantage relative to states where it's allowed.

“With the growth of out-of-state competition, we should try to correct the mistake New Jersey made 17 years ago,” said Albano, whose constituents include many casino industry employees.

Greenwald voiced similar views while touting the potential economic benefits that wagering could provide for New Jersey, noting it would help state programs that serve the elderly and people with disabilities.

“If New Jersey could tap into even a fraction of the national sports book, the state would generate millions of dollars in new direct revenues and economic dividends from increased tourism,” he said. “It wouldn't be a revenue avalanche, but the betting opportunity would certainly strengthen Atlantic City's marketability and gambling hand.”
