Gute Nacht Spruch :-)

March 5 , 2010 | | In: Uncategorized

Lange Rede, kurzer Sinn.

Sage Dir hier ganz still gute Nacht!

Coffee  filters …… Who knew!   And you can buy 1,000  at the Dollar Tree for almost nothing even the large ones.

1. Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the  microwave. Coffee  filters make excellent covers.

2. Clean windows, mirrors, and chrome…  Coffee filters are  lint-free so they’ll leave windows sparkling.

3.  Protect china by separating your good dishes with a coffee  filter between each dish.

4.  Filter broken cork from wine.  If you break the cork when  opening a wine  bottle, filter the wine through a coffee filter.

5.  Protect a cast-iron skillet.  Place a coffee filter in  the  skillet to absorb moisture and prevent rust.

6.  Apply shoe polish.  Ball up a lint-free coffee  filter.

7.  Recycle frying oil.  After frying, strain oil through a  sieve  lined with a coffee filter.

8.  Weigh chopped foods.  Place chopped ingredients in a  coffee filter on a  kitchen scale.

9.  Hold tacos.  Coffee filters make convenient wrappers for  messy foods.

10.  Stop the soil from leaking out of a plant pot.  Line a  plant  pot with a coffee filter to prevent the soil from going  through  the drainage holes.

11.  Prevent a Popsicle from dripping.  Poke one or two holes  as  needed in a coffee filter….

12.  Do you think we used expensive strips to wax eyebrows?   Use  strips of coffee filters..

13.  Put a few in a plate and put your fried bacon, French fries,  chicken  fingers, etc on them.  It soaks out all the grease.

14.  Keep in the bathroom.  They make great “razor nick   fixers.”

15.   As a sewing backing.  Use a filter as an  easy-to-tear backing for embroidering or appliqueing soft fabrics.

16.  Put baking soda into a coffee filter and insert into shoes or  a closet to absorb or prevent odors.

17.  Use them to strain soup stock and to tie fresh herbs in to put  in soups and stews.

18.  Use a coffee filter to prevent spilling when you add fluids to  your car.

19.  Use them as a spoon rest while cooking and clean up small  counter spills.

20.  Can use to hold dry ingredients when baking or when cutting a  piece of fruit or veggies..  Saves on having extra bowls to wash.

21.  Use them to wrap Christmas ornaments for storage.

22.  Use them to remove fingernail polish when out of cotton balls.

23.  Use them to sprout seeds..  Simply dampen the coffee  filter, place seeds inside, fold it and place it into a plastic baggie until  they sprout.

24. Use coffee filters as blotting paper for pressed flowers.   Place the flowers between two coffee filters and put the coffee filters  in  phone book..

25.  Use as a disposable “snack bowl” for popcorn, chips, etc.

OH YEAH THEY ARE GREAT TO USE IN YOUR COFFEE MAKERS TOO.

Most would agree that our Government hasn't been doing much to endear themselves to their constituents for quite some time. In response fringe and not so fringe groups have been sprouting up all over the place, the biggest of course being the Tea Party movement.

But say you are someone that is not happy with the way our government is being run but don't want to necessarily be associated with the Tea Party lunatic fringe, the leader of which can't even spell his racial slurs? There is a new group that might meet your need to express your displeasure, The Coffee Party.

It all started with documentary filmmaker Annabel Park venting her frustrations on her Facebook page about media coverage that made it seem that the Tea Parties were representative of the “real America.” She vehemently disagreed and her comments on Facebook got a lot of feedback from people who similarly felt pent-up and frustrated.

Their name the “Coffee Party” directly references the Tea Party movement and presents itself as an alternative. Park argues elected officials who represent us should work towards positive solutions to the problems the country faces instead of adopting obstructionist political tactics that play on peoples’ fears and which are driven by deliberate misinformation.

The Coffee Party is currently organizing nationwide. It is stressing the message that its members are voters who intend to hold elected officials accountable to holding up progress. Its members will participate and be engaged in the political process.

In addition, the Coffee Party values diversity, is, itself, diverse and completely comfortable with the changing ethnic demographics of the US. Park argues that politicians are exploiting the anxieties people feel regarding these changing demographics for political gain and that it is wrong.

(Coffee Party USA)

The Bitter Black Coffee Movement is no less prone to angry protests than the Tea Party.  They have a “Demand-side Economic” theory.  In the face of massive government spending cuts they take to the streets, noting the gross violations of “Social Justice Rights” that will result if the government makes such cuts and fails to raise taxes………mostly upon others.

The Coffee Movement
The Coffee Movement appears to be pushing civility at a time of great acrimony among the masses.  I don't have enough information to determine where this Coffee Movement fits on the partisan ideological divide.

Tired of hearing about the Tea Parties? WaPo introduces the “Coffee Party”, which aims to “promote civility and inclusiveness in political discourse, engage the government not as an enemy but as the collective will of the people, push leaders to enact the progressive change for which 52.9 percent of the country voted in 2008.”
All fine. But where’s the liquor-based political discussion group?

See if you can find a website for them, they may have downloadable manuals, etc. Did it come with a disk with drivers? Windows now seems to have some default ones, but if you have the right ones they may offer more features, e.g. my Wacom has software that I can use to set things like sensitivity, and how the "click" option works.

But basically just use the pen the same as your mouse (or a "real" pen ) to draw your shapes, but remember you'll need to tap/click to place your nodes to anchor your shape. If you have a paint/graphics program you should be able to use it in that too, and there it really is just like using a pen or pencil.

I've been using mine for so long that I could use it in my sleep – I use my pen for everything instead of a mouse, but you definitely need to practice a bit to get the feel of it.

There are always new accessories and apps coming to market for the iPhone and iPod touch. Over the last few months there have been several new iPhone accessories turn up that are designed to turn the iPhone into a remote control for your TV and other home theater gear.

Power A has unveiled its new iPhone Universal Remote Case that works in conjunction with a free software app to turn the iPhone or iPod touch into a universal remote that can control any IR device. The IR transmitter is built into a shiny black case that fits around the iPhone and looks a lot like the Juice Pack Air to me.

The case has the IR blaster and the software app allows the iPhone to control all functions and devices in your home theater from one screen. This case is cool because it looks much cleaner than some of the other devices that are dongles and look added on and fragile plus it will protect your iPhone. The app will also get enhancements and updates as time goes by according to the maker. The case will be available soon for right under $60.

Tantalizing iPhone Code Clues Hint at Future Video Chat Capability

Morning! And welcome to another edition of “Hey, it looks like the iPhone might soon have video chat and a front-facing camera.” Today's round includes the iPhone SDK, and the fact that it mentions a number of video chat commands:

That there image is from the SDK, and all but hits you in the face with two icons that mention “accepting” and “declining” video.

Parsing the evidence further, we discover this, a more direct mention of “video chat” in the telephony UI code:

So video chat on the iPhone. Probably coming soon, at least in code form. But what of the heavy strain on AT&T's 3G network? One would think that video chat via millions of new iPhones would tax the hell out of an already taxed system. Perhaps they'll roll it out everywhere but New York City and San Francisco and screw those cities a little more? Maybe throw little “too bad, so sad” San Fran/NYC asterisk caveats in all the anti-Verizon Wireless ads they no doubt have saved in the can for when this hypothetical video chat iPhone launches. We'll see. Editor's Note: Or video is being prepped for some other carrier's network, as noted in the comments. Could be! -j.l.

In any event, as far as a hardware refresh or longer case goes? If the video chat development pans out, it's looking more and more likely.

iPhone Storys again

February 21 , 2010 | | In: Uncategorized

Well, here we go again. Apple might have stolen all the headlines yesterday with the iPad, but as we've already noted, that name has been in dispute since September — and it doesn't look like Fujitsu, which has been selling its own iPad since 2002, is going to back down. “It's our understanding that the name is ours,” Fujitsu PR director Masahiro Yamane told the New York Times. Maybe, but it's not quite that simple. Here's the deal: Fujitsu applied for the “iPad” mark in 2003, specifically covering handheld devices used in retail. (The Fujitsu iPad is a $2,000 Windows CE point-of-sale device.) Along the way, the application got bogged down because a company called Mag-Tek had already registered IPAD for its line of PIN-entry keypads, and Fujitsu's application was listed as “abandoned” in April of 2009. The notice of abandonment apparently woke someone at Fujitsu up, because the company then asked the Trademark Office to re-open the application, arguing that Mag-Tek's IPAD had nothing to do with the Fujitsu iPad. The USPTO agreed, re-opened the application, and the process continued until September, when the iPad application was published so other trademark holders could oppose registration. That's when Apple signaled that it wasn't so happy about things — and filed its own “iPad” trademark application using a shell company called “IP Application Development.”

Phew — still with us? That leaves us at now, with Mag-Tek selling the IPAD under a valid, registered trademark, Fujitsu selling an iPad with a pending trademark application, and Apple sucking all the air out of the room with the launch of the iPad and no US trademark at all. We'll be honest: we'd always simply discounted rumors Apple would call it the iPad, because this is kind of a mess. Apple can't just take “iPad” from Fujitsu because it really wants the name — it's likely going to have to argue that “iPad” is confusingly similar to “iPod,” while still trying to register “iPad” on its own and telling the Trademark Office that it won't be confusing to people looking for the Mag-Tek device, or the Siemens “iPad” motor trademark, or potentially even Coconut Grove's trademarked iPad bras. Of course, all these problems can be solved with the direct application of cash and some nice ambient media attention, so it's likely we'll see some friendly joint PR from Apple and Fujitsu along with an agreement to share the name sometime before Apple's formal opposition is due on February 28. That's pretty much what happened when Apple bit the “iPhone” name from Cisco, anyway. But still — why can't Apple ever learn to have these conversations ahead of time?

The Social Analyst is a weekly column by Mashable Co-Editor Ben Parr, where he digs into social media trends and how they are affecting companies in the space.

It’s been five days since Apple introduced the iPad to the world, and everybody is still reacting to the announcement. Adobe is calling Apple out on the issue of no Flash on the iPad. The iPad has already sparked the Amazon vs. Apple ebook war. Countless people are writing reactionary pieces (including me). The iPad still hasn’t left Twitter’sTwitter trending topics.

I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen an unreleased device draw such ire and approval. The reaction to the Nexus One, the iPhone 3GS and Google WaveGoogle Wave don’t even compare. Some people just hate the thing, while others (like Jim Cramer) believe it’ll be the biggest selling device in history.

My intent in this column is to cut through the crap and to answer two key questions:

1. Will the iPad be a commercial success?

2. Is the iPad good for computing and the web?

Will the iPad be a Commercial Success?

Let me answer the first question clearly, right now: Yes, it will be a commercial hit.

The iPad combines a lot of things people want in their computers: simplicity, speed, sexiness, portability, and a price that trumps many computers and almost all laptops. No, it doesn’t come with a camera, multitasking, Flash, or a USB port, but the vast majority of people don’t care about that. So long as they can play games, surf the web, play music, read books, and stick the iPad into a keyboard peripheral, they will get exactly what they need from the iPad.

That isn’t to say that techies won’t get utility out of the iPad, either: apps, speedy browsing, portability, iBooks, 3G access, and the Apple brand are more than enough to get gadget geeks to line up at 6 AM in front of an Apple store.

People Are Forgetting That This Is the First Version

The simple truth is that Apple’s tablet didn’t need a lot of features to sell millions. It really just needed the Apple brand and the beginnings of a great product to make it a hit.

Remember, this is the first edition of the iPad. A year may seem like a long time, but it really isn’t in the larger scheme of things. Releasing the iPad without more expensive parts like the camera gives Apple the chances to get market penetration via price while it tracks how people actually use their iPads.

You can bet that Apple will come out with a newer, sexier version of the iPad every year, just like it does for the iPhone. You can also bet that Apple will delight its previous doubters with features such as a front-facing camera and multitasking.

Year one is about product introduction, year two is about true market share infiltration. Missing features aren’t a problem: they’re a market strategy.

iPad: Is It Good for Computing and the Web?

One of the major complaints by technologists about the iPad has to be its “closed” system. I think Twitter’s Alex Payne sums it up best:

“That the iPad is a closed system is harder to forgive. One of the foremost complaints about the iPhone has been Apple’s iron fist when it comes to applications and the development direction of the platform. The iPad demonstrates that if Apple is listening to these complaints, they simply don’t care. This is why I say that the iPad is a cynical thing: Apple can’t – or won’t – conceive of a future for personal computing that is both elegant and open, usable and free.”

He goes on to explain that its closed system could signal the end of a “hacker era,” where the curious could play around with hardware and code as they pleased, leading to the experimentation that has led to many of technology’s greatest innovations.

So let’s get down to the big question: Is the iPad a good thing or bad thing for the future of technology, computing, and the web?

My answer: it’s a good thing, but we have to be careful.

Simplicity Brings Computing to the Masses

While most of us active in the tech and social media industries are adept and proficient users of PCs and Macs, most people simply aren’t. Multitasking isn’t something they like or want to do. In all honesty, they just want to access their email and access FacebookFacebook.

The iPad will bring more of the web to many more people. It’s very easy to click on an app and get your Facebook or to open up the browser and go to your friend’s blog every day. Many senior citizens and younger children would benefit from an iPad as their full-time computer. No blue screens of death, no pain with cords, no hardware incompatibilities.

Oh, and this is key: they won’t have to purchase an Internet connection or have Wi-Fi if they have a 3G iPad. For many people, a 3G connection will be more than sufficient for their browsing needs. This makes it cheaper and easier to own and operate.

For more technologically-savvy users, the iPad acts as an alternative computing device, giving them access to the web in another room or while they’re on the road. No, you won’t be able to blog as fast on an iPad, but it’s really just meant as a robust, handheld window to the web.

Closed Environments Aren’t Good, But We Have Choices

Let’s be clear: I do not like closed platforms. I think Android’sAndroid open platform is the future, not Apple’s closed iPhone App Store. As seed investor and Y Combinator founder Paul Graham noted last week, the App Store’s policies have hurt Apple’s relationship with developers and continues to be a “karma leak” for the company.

This is a free market though, and that means companies have the right to choose to build their platform in any way they want. At the same time, we as customers have the right to choose which devices we buy and use.

Apple wants to control the user experience at every level, and we can’t blame them: the experience between PCs varies wildly and is prone to errors, shutdowns, and frustrating load times. The iPad is a strong answer to these issues.

The iPad isn’t, nor will it ever be, a replacement for the computer, however. You can always choose to buy a PC instead of an iPad or to put down your iPad in favor of your laptop when you need to access an open platform. You can choose to buy an Android-based tablet if you want open apps, or you can just stick with your Nexus One.

Apple cannot and will not single-handedly make computing a closed environment. As long as people are curious and have a choice, advanced computing devices will thrive. Even if Apple created a Macbook based off the iPhone OS, people would still buy PCs in droves.

Choice is good for the web. Innovation is good for computing. And in the end, Apple’s iPad will make the web far more accessible, despite our gripes and concerns.

That Time Of The Month: The Best Period-Related iPad Jokes

Apple's iPad announcement earlier this afternoon prompted a score of WTFing across the internet, prompting many to ask, “Are there any women on Apple's marketing team?” Answer: Apparently not. (Period.)

From Twitter (for what it's worth, #iTampon is apparently the number three trending topic on the site.):

tjakabon: “It surfs the web AND stops the bleeding.”

Gelatobaby: And you can use the giant QWERTY keyboard to get your period on the #iPad!

CarolBlymire: Is #apple making an iPad for light-flow days? Just wondering…

Trish1981: iPad? Really? All I can say is, I'm sticking with Always, bitches.

tremendousnews: So I can say “That chick is on her iPad” and not be called a pig? Thank you Apple.

melissapierce: iPad has changed “the conversation” from how we use tech in context to how we use tech as Kotex. (who named this thing?)

TwittsMcGee: I haven't heard this many period jokes since I was forced to watch The View last month. #iPad

kathycacace: Okay, just one more. The iPad: protecting your data from embarrassing incidents.

Johnpapa: “64 gig iPad will forever be known as the heavy flow model.”

From the comments section of “Period Pieces”:

lady_justice: Did the prototype come with a belt?

Lymed: Does the Period Tracker app come free?

fauxfruit: If I order this, will my boyfriend and I have to worry if it comes late?

andBegorrah: If you and your friends all buy one, will they sync up?

boston_nj: Meh. I'll wait until they come out with the iDivaCup

morninggloria: Don't wear white jeans while using an iPad, and especially don't use an iPad in front of your crush. You're a teen magazine embarrassing moment waiting to happen.

ms negative the easy-going unicorn: someone needs to make a 'mysterious blue liquid stain on white' wallpaper for this.

LilSpitfire: Later in the year they will be releasing the companion tablet pen, the Ipon.

Vesuvius At Home (I believe in peace, bitch): But what if the cute boys see me shopping for one? What if my dad has to take me??

NellMood: It's so beautiful when an electronics company finally becomes a woman…

Cinnamoncanuck: @NellMood: Aunt Flo will be so happy! Reply

soykatrina: Eh, I prefer the CVS brand. A few bucks less but does the same thing…

vlvtjones: So will iffy Wifi coverage be called iSpotting?

morninggloria: Can I get a scented iPad for when my data feels not-so-fresh?

Mary McCarthyite: Everyone, just try to Stay(free) calm and Poise(d). It's Always nice to see a new product on the market. I Depend on Apple to come up with great ideas. Maybe we're taking this out of Kotex.

Lymed: Somebody give the iPad a Red Bull, because it ain't no good without wings.

andBegorrah: Are you there, God? It's me, Marketing.

NellMood: iPads are for 8th graders. I'm waiting for the iTampon, because I prefer to do all my interneting from inside my vagina.

BicSharpie: Hopefully it will help people deal with the 24-hour news cycle.

Eine kleine SprücheSammlung zum Nachdenken

Lange Rede, kurzer Sinn.

Wir geben den Kühen Futter,
dafür geben sie uns Milch und Butter.

Ein Esel, der Bücher trägt,
ist noch lange kein Doktor.

Was wäre Nike ohne Air,
was wär der Gummi ohne Bär,
was wär der Bleistift ohne Mine,
was wär der Zug nur ohne Schiene,
was wäre Becker ohne Stich,
